When the people of Harford County elected me to Office in 2006, they made it known that they wanted me to address the problems associated with crime, gangs and drugs. My record speaks for itself:
- A reduction in serious crime
- A 29% reduction in known gang members in Harford County (at any given time, 10% of Harford County’s gang population is incarcerated in the Harford County Detention Center)
- $5,153,174 in illegal drugs seized from our streets
- 262 guns taken from the hands of criminals
During my term, there has been one new challenge – a shrinking budget as a result of the downturn in the economy and a cut in Harford County’s tax rate. I met this challenge, also, absorbing cuts without cutting police services.
As your Sheriff for the next four years, the focus of my administration will remain:
(1) Drugs
- More investigations of mid and upper level drug dealers
- Partnerships with Federal, State and Local authorities to expand the scope of drug investigations
- A renewed initiative to investigate street-level drug transactions
(2) Gangs
- More and better intelligence to monitor gang members and their activities
- Partnerships with Federal, State and Local authorities to share resources and intelligence
- Intensify efforts to continue the downward trend of known gang members on our streets
- Work more closely with the community and other stakeholders to find other solutions to our gang problems
Additionally, I will:
- Work more closely with our schools and education officials to better address the problem of bullying in our schools
- Dedicate more resources to fight crimes committed against our children, focusing on child sexual predators and those who exploit our children on the internet
The men and women of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office work very hard, risking life and limb, to protect the citizens of Harford County. As your Sheriff, it is my intent to give them the tools they need to stay safe, to keep you safe, and continue the downward trend of crime in Harford County.
